Vintage Halloween!

Today's post shows my small collection of vintage Halloween with a special emphasis on witches. Whenever I go to an antique mall, shop, or show, I keep my eye out for Halloween items. They are few and far between so I'm glad to have what I have. My good friend , Doreen had quite a nice collection and we had fun sharing ideas. She has moved away and I miss her, especially in the fall!!
I found this nice horn/noise maker at a mall near here. It was a good deal. In fact, I came home and looked it up in my book of Halloween values and ended up taking the ferry back to buy it!

It is a US Metal toy from the 1930's.

This cute noise maker is also made by US Metal Toys. It is from the 1940's.

Here is another noise maker. It is another US Metal Toy Co. This is possibly from the 20's.

This little tin clicker is made by Kirchhof, probably from the 50's.

This cute witch tambourine is made by Kirchhof in the 30's. It s special because it was a gift from Doreen.

This little broomed witch diecut is from Germany in the 1920's.

I have several post cards. This one is by Raphael Tuck and Sons.

This one is from Ironton Ohio in 1902.

A fun little game by Beistle came out in 1940.

This is another Raphael Tuck and Sons card. The post mark is dated 1908.

This is called "The Bogie Book." It was made by Dennison for their Holiday series. This particular book came out in 1926.

I love this picture. It is made from a Halloween Bag from the 1920's. It was made by the Beistle Co.

I love the hearth.

Several years ago I bought this witch diecut at an antique fair in Louisville. It is called the walking witch. It was made in Germany in the 1920-30's.

Cloth witches plus one!

Well, this post shows more of my witch collection. Not thinking of a better name , I'll call it cloth witches plus the great wreath I have over the mantel. The first one is another gift from my dear daughter and son-in-law. She came at Christmas one year. We better not disturb her as she is having her morning coffee in her pumpkin mug! She has two lives, one just sitting there having her coffee and the other as a Folkmanis Witch Puppet.

I don't remember the artist who did this but it was ordered by the SBA several years ago at a craft fair in Sharonville , Ohio. It came as a surprise birthday gift!

I put two matching witch pillows on my couch each October.

Here is a close up. The design is a Shepherd's Bush from the "Be A" series. I think I used the recommended fabric and thread. I did these 3 years ago.

This wreath came from the same craft show that I mentioned with the previous witch. I think the painting is really well done. This goes over my mantel each October.

Moon and Bats!!!

Here is my newest addition to the cloth witch collection. I bought her in a great new age shop in Ohio.

Woolpets Plus Witches!!!

Today's special "Witch" blog highlights all my Woolpet witches and a few others my daughter has made for me. Laurie is a very talented wool sculptor. She started a business called "Woolpets." where her sculptures are sold. She and Kevin(my son-in-law) have a great business going, Laurie being the artist and Kevin the businessman! She has made these wonderful witches for me. Sometimes they are a gift for an event like Christmas and at other times she just gives me one!(LUCKY ME!!!!!) I hope you enjoy these wonderful witches!!!

This is the first one she made for me. This beauty sits on the top of my Halloween tree.

Laurie is planning to illustrate children's books. Her main character is a sheep much like this one called Hazel. You can meet Hazel at a blog called"Hazel, Basil, Pudding Pie."

She's almost too cute to be a witch!!!!

This cutie has her black cat. Just today, Laurie gave me those adorable pumpkins.!!!

The latest addition to my wool witches, I got her today! What a nice treat!

Witches from Germany

Welcome to my week of witches. A started collecting many years ago. It is such a fun collection. Many family members have contributed. The first group that I'm going to share are my German witches. Our Son and Daughter-in-law were stationed in Germany several years ago. We visited them at Christmas time. It was quite amazing for two people who had never been out of the U.S. Rather than write a lot here, I think I'll tell about each one as they come up.

We went to the market at Nuremberg. I feel pretty sure that is where Debbie picked this out for me. It made a very special Christmas gift. It is a smoker. At Christmas time the Germans put incense inside these and the smoke comes out in various places depending on the smoker. This little guy has a pipe. It was made by Christian Ulbricht. He is very well known as a talented designer.

The wonderful SBA bought me this for Christmas. It represents the Russian Baba Yaga.

As you can see, each part opens to a new part. I love the witches house with chicken legs. I used the book "Boney Legs" with 1st grade when I taught so it brings back happy memories.

My dear daughter sent me this cute little German witch one year for Halloween!

This was part of another Christmas gift from Debbie and Jeff when they were in Germany. I hang her on my tree.

This cute little ornament is a Steinbach. As you can see, many German witches are not dressed in the traditional "witch" outfit!

The year we were in Germany for Christmas , the SBA bought this wonderful nutcracker for me. She is a Holzknackl from the Kathe Wohlfahrt Christmas store in Rotenburg ob der Tauber, a beautiful old walled city!!!

This cutie was a anniversary gift from the SBA. We found her on ebay. She was designed by Christian Ulbricht. The bottom says Handmade in Germany. In this case, the smoke would come from the caldron.

Here is another wonderful Christmas gift from Debbie and Jeff. The bottom says Erzgebirgische Holzkunst Gahlenz GmbH RuT. Made in Germany. She is a bit more traditional in her clothing.

Last but not least, another Christmas gift from the SBA. We got this in a small gift shop here in Poulsbo that carried lots of things made in Germany. She definitely looks traditional and the smoke comes from her pot.

Fall in the Yard

This was a lovely Sunday in the Pacific NW. It was a great day to look at fall color. Since fall is probably my favorite season, I have planted for fall color in my yard. Plus , to my pleasure, some of my late summer flowers still look quite lovely. We spent the afternoon at a meeting about our wonderful lighthouse that is going through serious renovation. It was good to hear about its progress. Also, starting tomorrow, I will be highlighting my witch collection. Each day in the week before Halloween, I'll show a different category of my collection. The oak leaf hydrangea.

This is an amazing grape vine I planted about 2 years ago. Again, the color is only fair in these pictures. The vine lights up my back yard!

Sorry for these washed out colors. The real thing is beautiful!

This is a parrotia tree. The vine grows with this.

Lovely dahlias!

My Japanese Anemone, Margaret is just great. It has been blooming for weeks!

This is a ground cover that has pretty blue flowers and then turns lovely in the fall. I think it's common name is Leadwort.
