A FIELD TRIP TO CHIHULY GARDEN & GLASS

First, thanks to all of you who looked at my photos of the International District.  I have a real treat for you today!!  Our DD has a birthday in May and our SIL has a birthday in July.  For part of their gifts, we took them to the Chihuly Garden and Glass at Seattle Center.  I had wanted to do this for quite some time.  I was totally amazed.  If you ever get a chance to see one of his displays GO!  I have divided this into 2 posts.  Today it will  be the inside. Tomorrow, I will show you the garden.  I can't tell you how much we enjoyed this day!! I will warn you that there are lots of pictures but not too many words.

 The Glass Forest

 The Sea Life Room.  This was about 15 feet tall.

Amazing details!

 This is called the Persian ceiling.  The glass ceiling is covered with these incredible glass sculptures.  It is lighted from above.

 The Mille Fiori Room.This area covered about 40 feet at least.

 Ikebana and Float Boat.  The floor was mirrors so everything was reflected as though you were on a very calm lake.

 Chandeliers- about 8 to 10 feet wide.

 About 6 feet long and 3 feet wide.

Cross Stitch and Day Trip!

Thanks so much for taking a look at my 4th of July stitching and decorating.  I truly enjoy doing both for this holiday.  I did a bit less stitching because I was working on Hannah's birth sampler.  I have as much done on her sampler as I can until I see her room.  Then I will add the color.  It looks very green now.  I was looking for something to stitch until we go to Alabama.  I decided on a cute little design that I saw on a blog last Halloween.  I ordered it right away!  It is called, "A Wicked Plant(All Hallows Eve).  The design is by Barbara Ana Designs. I also have the new PS Halloween designs coming so even though it is July, I'm getting in a  mood for fall stitching.
Last week our DD, Laurie, took us on a great adventure.  We had never gone to Seattle's International District.  That is a favorite part of town for Laurie and her husband. We went to a famous  restaurant that we had seen on the  Anthony Bourdain program when he visited Seattle.  I hope you enjoy the pictures. If you are looking for a great read about this part of Seattle, I recommend "The Hotel at the Corner of Bitter and Sweet." It really gives you a picture of this area during WW2.

Happy 4th of July

The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays!  This post is especially to honor my 5th  Great Grandfather , Captain Charles Gatliff and  my 4th Great Grandfather ,Captain James Alexander Finley.  Both of these gentlemen fought in the American Revolution! Gatliff's wife and children were captured by the British and marched from Kentucky to Fort Dearborn in Michigan.  They were reunited after the war in Virginia. I owe all this great information to my DH who has done all the genealogy! Happy Birthday America!

 Even my Woolpets are celebrating!!!

 The flag has 48 stars.  Our home in Kentucky was built at the time when the U.S. had 48 states . So I bought that flag at an antique show to commemorate the age of the house.

 The 4th of July is my easiest holiday to decorate for.  Our home is mainly barn red, cobalt blue, with touches of gold. So it fits right in!

 I finished this last night.  Word Play by With My Needle. I put in more red and blue than the chart called for.

A Great Day and an Error!

First, thanks to all of you who commented on my samplers.  At the end of this post there will be a bit more on Hannah's birth sampler. First, I have some great photos to show you from Sat.  I think I'll just let the piatures do the talking.

 This is where our day started.  It was our Sat. to be docents at the lighthouse.  You can see the beautiful day we had by looking at that blue sky.  We had 167 visitors!!

Even the Cascades many miles away were visible.

Mt. Rainier is even further away but was visible through the window of the lighthouse.  

After we were finished, we stopped in Poulsbo.  This was the day of the Summer Solstice festival.  I think it is called St. Hans Day. It is always held on the Sat. after the Summer Solstice.

They raise this beautiful pole all decorated with greens and flowers.  After it is up, dances were held around the pole.

I especially enjoy seeing the children.

Most girls had wreaths in their hair.

 

 The Vikings parade in and tell a story about the celebration.

Even though it was quite warm they light a bon fire.  It is part of the ritual.

 

When I got home I added this to the sampler.  Actually what you see is what I put in the next day since I had to frog all of it out on Sat. night after I stitched it.  Because all the info is different, you have to figure your own pattern.  The SBA(a former mechanical engineer) helped me find the middle.  We were wrong!!!!! I learned that frogging over one is even worse than stitching over one!!!!!!!!

She'll be worth every minute of stitching!! But just look at that sweet big brother.  She is one very lucky little girl!!!!!!
