Cross Stitch Update and the Heron

Hi cloud friends!  I hope this long, way too hot summer is going well for you.  We have had a week of lovely weather, highs in the 70's.  Well that all ends tomorrow.  We are back to the high 80's to low 90's.  Now you might think I am way too into the weather this summer.  Well, I am!!! Just remember we have no AC!!! As I have said before that is not uncommon up here.  Very few homes have AC, maybe 2 or 3 in our entire neighborhood.  So lots of nasty hot stuff in my near future.  Plus, I truly HATE HOT weather!!!
Well on to something more interesting.  I'm making progress on "For Thine.... " I really like the spots of color.  This has been such a fun piece to stitch.  I am now thinking about the Halloween project I will do this year for Caleb, my grandson.  I'm not sure but I do have a few ideas. He will be 10 soon so the design will have to be a bit glitzy to get his attention.
The last pictures are of the heron.  We went over to a local area hoping to see the Eagles feeding at low tide.  Well, no Eagles but a really cool heron.  They also had a fairly large area with gourds for Purple Martins.  They were very busy feeding their babies.

It is 2/3rds finished. When I am all finished with the cross stitches, I will go back and put in the straight stitches.

This bird is about 3 feet tall.

 It is quite the hunter!!!!

Got it! Not sure if that is a fish or what!!!!

The Purple Martin taking a short break from feeding the babies!

Thanks for joining me today!!

  4. I like the mouse and the upside down owl Barb. Very cool heron photos and so neat to have a Purple Martin condo complex. I read about the plastic gourd houses - I may have to try that.

  7. I love the piece you are working on. I have a question about the eagles. Do you have them in your area all year? We just see them in January and February usually, when they travel to the Mississippi river area to find open water to catch fish. They usually congregate around the locks where the river doesn't freeze over.

  8. I just love this Hallowe'en piece.
Great photos of the Heron. We have a large pond at the back of our house on farmland and we see the occasional heron in the treeslooking into the pond. I love seeing them flying with their long legs stretched out behind them.

  9. Oh I am just so excited to see this stitching completed!! It looks incredible! Such detail. We are having 1 brief cool day today but on Sunday we reached 35 celcius but the humidity shot us up to about 43 celcius. We do have air conditioning and I think this weather is ridiculous. I hate hot weather too, but I also think to what is coming for us in January and February - double negative digits plus a wind chill. We live in an incredibly ridiculous area for weather!!!!! Love the heron pictures - and the purple martins are delightful. Keep cool and have a splendid rest of the week!

  11. Good progress on your stitching !! Keep yourself cool and hydrated, drink lot of water. We always have hot summers in India so cannot do without ACs.

  12. We are having a hot week this week, Barb, but it is really the first of the summer. Luckily, we do have AC with all the humidity this area gets.

I love the heron photos--we have a Great Blue Heron that visits our pond on occasion and my husband is always worried he will eat the koi. I really don't think there is any need to worry as our koi are almost two feet long!!

    Love your Halloween piece!

  21. I do not like hot weather and we don't have a/c here either. So after a couple of really hot days the house is so warmed up that you cannot sleep properly in the night and you cannot do anything else properly during the day. Not my liking at all.

I love your progress pictures and your piece is coming along well. Nice bird pictures as well.

  22. Hi Barb! By any chance do you still have the 'For Thine...' chart from Prairie Moon? If so, would you like to sell or trade for it? I would LOVE to stitch it, but haven't found a copy of this OOP chart. Thank you, Hugs, Elizabeth Keller
