Welcome to day 2 of the Advent Blog Hop. Lots of thanks to Jo at Serendipitious Stitching for all the work she does to organize the Hop.
This year I am sharing a sampler that I stitched last winter. The sampler was designed by Chessie and Me and is called"Peace and Goodwill." I was able to use a frame that I found at a thrift store. I just painted it barn red and did same antiquing. I am happy with the results and plan to leave it up all year long.
This is a close up of the bottom. I think the message is lovely and can apply to us all the time, not just during Christmas.
Jo asked us to think about Christmas books that we enjoy. I chose two, one as an adult and the other I read to children. My adult book is "Shepherd's Abiding" by Jan Karon. If you read and enjoyed the Mitford series, this is the book for you. Years ago I was an elementary teacher I read this charming book to my class at Christmas time, it is called "Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas". This book has long been out of print but a few years ago I found a copy in a used book store. I was so happy to see it and it took me right back to some very happy days as a teacher. The illustrations are charming too!
I wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and let's hope for a good new year!
This is a lovely piece and one I need to look out for now. Happy Christmas. x

Always fun when you can frame a piece yourself and add to it's story.

I looked the book up and discovered The Muppets made a film based on it!

ReplyDeleteI love your sampler, and the way you have framed it. The frame really sets it off beautifully. I enjoyed reading about your books.
ReplyDeleteNicely done on the frame painting! It will be interesting to see how many new books or authors this hop encourages me to try!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful sampler, Barb! I was just looking through my Chessie & Me charts and wondering why I don't stitch more of them--they really are special. The red house is so pretty and I love the deer that surround that lovely sentiment. Hope you are doing well and having a peaceful December ♥
ReplyDeleteYou certainly made a perfect frame for the beautiful sampler.
ReplyDeleteThis sampler is so pretty, Barb! I would leave it up all year long too. Love Jan Karon's books but I'm not sure I've read Shepherd's Abiding. I will have to check it out. Take care.
