A Winter Walk in the Woods

We've been inside quite a bit the last few weeks so the SBA and I decided to go for a walk in the woods. The NW woods are very beautiful in the winter because they are so green. Of course, the positive side of the rain is the green moss that covers everything in the woods. Plus with so many evergreens, the woods stay lovely. This area is about 45 minutes from our house. It is quite near the lighthouse that I have blogged about many times. I hope you are having a great week-end and you enjoy seeing the photos. We really enjoyed taking them!!

This is the main trail that leads into the woods. The further you go the smaller the trail.

We saw lots of branches down. Probably from that storm we had. Too bad the holidays aren't ahead, you could make lots of beautiful garlands without cutting anything.

At one time , this area must have been covered with old growth forests. We saw these huge stumps everywhere. These trees must have been an amazing sight. The SBA agreed to be in the picture so you could see just how big these stumps were. The holes that you see were chopped there to provide a platform for the logger to stand on to chop the tree down.

We saw this pretty black and white duck in a quiet little pond.

At the same place, we saw this kingfisher.

This is a shiny black fungus of some type.

More fungus. I think it's pretty.

This tree shows you that beavers live in the nearby ponds.

Even dead trees provide food for the birds.

I love unusual bark.

This is the trunk of a madrona tree.

This lovely pond was at the end of our hike. We hoped to see some wildlife but no luck today. It was still a great walk in the woods and I think I'll sleep very well tonight!

  2. Barb, it's been a while since I've stopped by. I'm trying to get all caught up with my blog reading. I went back and saw all your posts since the beginning of Dec. Love all the pics of the stitching, finishing, and of your travels. Love the little patriotic tree and ornaments!
