This is my first finish for 2015. It is very different from most of the things I stitch. It is more like a picture. I usually prefer a sampler type design. However, I can't see this without thinking of my dear father who loved to sail and taught us this saying when we were very small. I used all the called for floss and linen. It is a PS design called "Weather Wise".
After teaching for thirty years, I knew I had to have this book. It is great with lots of good designs and a very interesting story.
I have thought about designing a sampler based on the house we had in Louisville, KY. The house was a very symmetrical colonial. It would be a very easy and appropriate house for a sampler. Who Knows?? Maybe??
Well, I almost got through a post without mentioning the Hawks. We finally bought a flag and the DH is all ready for the big game.
Those of you in the path of this big storm take care and be safe!!
Love your finish!! Those books look very interesting - can't wait to see what you end up doing! GO HAWKS!!
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll design that sampler. It will be an inspiration for those of us who aren't as skilled as you. I love your Red Sky picture. Very appropriate for our oart of the world!
ReplyDeleteWe will be watching the Big Game on the weekend too!
Congratulations on your finish--yay for you for designing your own sampler. Spring is several weeks away here--had snow on Saturday
ReplyDeleteLove your finish! It is stunning :) Louisville, is not so far from my house...I hadn't realized you lived in this part of the country. We are NOT having 63 degree weather, but I love it anyway :)
ReplyDeleteYour finish looks good, the version we use over here is shepherd instead of sailor.
ReplyDeleteYour schoolroom book looks interesting, I didn't realise you taught - I taught primary for twenty years.
Barb, I just have to track down Weather Warnings for myself - love it!! With a little luck and a few color changes it could look very tropical, don't you think? Thanks for sharing it.
ReplyDeletePulling for the Hawks myself!!
We are having unseasonably warm weather right now here in Calgary too. Not complaining. I feel like I should start spring cleaning. LOL Love your sailor finish.
ReplyDeleteOoo, love your Red Sky -- we had one of those sunsets last week --- so pretty!
ReplyDeleteHappy stitching.
i am SO rooting for the seahawks. the patriots have tarnished football for me so much! i am angry. you guys have to win!
ReplyDeleteLove your Prairie Schooler finish ! Not even close to 63 here :) Good luck to your Seahawks !
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your PS finish! It turned out great. Will you frame it? Glad you were able to get out in the yard to do some work!

ReplyDeleteNice new header, lol. Now on to the big game.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful finish you have. It's one of those designs that make your fingers itch to stitch it the moment you see it. I have already pulled out the chart ...
Great plan to create your own sampler.
That turned out great, love the colors.
ReplyDeleteYour flag is cool.
Gooooooooooooo Hawks!!!!!!!!!!!
I so hope they win.

ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the Superbowl,it is being televised live, as always, here in the uk. I hope the Seahawks do the double:-)
A beautiful finish!! And, the two books look very interesting. I think you should design the sampler!

Congratulations on a lovely finish, Barb! I think I could happily stitch only PS designs for the rest of my life :)
ReplyDeleteGreat find on the books and my entire family is pulling for the Seahawks!!!
Oh I just LOVE that finish!! Its perfect in every way! I wish I could find a stamped cross stitch of that, I would do that in a heart beat! :) Lucky you for having great temperatures. We are going down again to about -25 celcius starting the weekend. And that's the daytime high. Go Hawks!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI love your finish! I have that chart in my stash... but haven't stitched it yet. Go Seahawks!!!
ReplyDeleteLook at that blog header you now have! Still very hard for me to root for Pete Carroll as I think of him as the coach of USC! Hasn't the weather been wonderful? What a nice stitch and way to remember your father. I love PS patterns.
ReplyDeleteI really like that Prairie Schooler design! I just saw someone in England saying the same poem, but they used Shepherd's instead of Sailors--how interesting! Either way it's a great finish and tribute to your father. Hugs!
