Here We are in Oregon

Well, we looked at the weather Sat. and saw that it was going to be pretty nice. While I was recovery from the hernia surgery, we decided that when I felt better we would go on a road trip. I didn't want to be too close to Christmas so this worked out perfectly. We are staying in a great little town called Astoria. This is the oldest town west of the Rockies or so they say. Tomorrow I plan to check out some of the old houses! It is right across the Columbia River from Washington. This is the area where the Lewis and Clark Expedition ended. Today we visited Fort Clatsop or a copy of the original fort. It is the place where they spent a miserable winter-lots of rain(shock-shock). After that we went to a state park that is at the end of the little strip of land that separates the Pacific and the Columbia River. Aparently
this was a very difficlut area for ships and many went down at the mouth of the Columbia.

On the way to the Fort there is this great statue of the Native woman who helped Lewis and Clark.

The SBA agreed to this photo so you could see how big the trees are.

There were many informational signs.

This replica fort was built by the National Park Service.

I'm glad we aren't spending the night here!

This was the delux room for Lewis and Clark.

Part two of the delux room.

Inside fireplace.

Outside of the same fireplace.

Maybe it rained a lot but the view was lovely.

This jetty was built to keep the sand out of the main channel of the Columbia.

From this platform you have wonderful views of the Pacific and the entrance to the Columbia.

Pacific waves hitting the jetty.

These guys loved the water!

I thought sharks only lived in warm water-it's cold up here!!!!!! See you tomorrow!
